Pelham, NY – The Pelham Half Marathon & 10K announced today that the New York Athletic Club, Travers Island, has signed on as Platinum Sponsor of the 2017 Pelham Half Marathon & 10K. Travers Island in Pelham has been “home” to the New York Athletic Club in Westchester County since 1888.

“The NYAC has been part of the Pelham community for 129 years with a rich history of athletic accomplishments, from elite athletes on the global stage to enthusiasts on their home courts,” said Race Director Jason Jeffries. “Their generous support will make a big difference. It enables us to offer a great race experience for runners as we continue to grow, and to help hundreds of people in the community by donating race proceeds to the Pelham Civic Association. This shows what a special community we live in.”

Christopher Golden, member of the NYAC Board of Governors and Chairman of the NYAC's Travers Island Committee, added “There are many road races in the Westchester Community throughout the fall, but the Pelham Half Marathon & 10K is one of the most popular and best organized. The New York Athletic Club is proud to support and participate in such a fine community event.”

Proceeds from the race are donated to the Pelham Civic Association which aids hundreds of students, families, adults, and seniors in the Pelham community every year.

The race has doubled in size every year, reaching 400 runners and more than 100 volunteers in 2016. It started on a whim among nine Pelham friends and now attracts runners from across the New York City metro area, across the US, and from overseas including Australia, South Africa, and Singapore.

The 6th Annual Pelham Half Marathon & 10K will take place on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at 8am (half marathon) and 8:15am (10K) from the Daronco Town House and Gazebo. The races feature a USATF certified half marathon course, cash prizes, finishers medals, and technical race shirts.

A series of preview runs continue October 21, October 28, and November 11 to help runners become more familiar with the course, meet other runners, and train for the race in pace groups.

PELHAM HALF MARATHON & 10K

From its humble beginnings 6 years ago, the Pelham Half Marathon and 10K has grown from 9 runners to more than 400. The races weave their way around the bucolic villages of Pelham on a crisp Saturday morning right after Thanksgiving. Runners enjoy all the sights and sounds of Pelham from historic Chester Park to Shore Park overlooking Long Island Sound, but most importantly see the community come together, volunteering to man water stations, playing live music, and cheering in front of their houses all along the route. Race proceeds benefit The Pelham Civic Association.

THE PELHAM CIVIC ASSOCIATION

Now in its 78th year, Civics is a 100-member volunteer organization dedicated to helping neighbors within the Pelham community. Their life-changing programs reach hundreds of families and individuals every year including seniors, youth, students, disabled, and those facing financial hardships.

THE NEW YORK ATHLETIC CLUB, TRAVERS ISLAND

Named for Wall Street tycoon, yachtsman and the New York Athletic Club president William Travers, who guided its purchase in 1888, Travers Island is the NYAC’s home in Westchester County. Sixteen miles north of the Manhattan City House, Travers Island’s focal points are the Club House, the gorgeous saltwater swimming pool, the tennis courts, the all-weather playing field, the Yacht Club, the Fitness Center and the Rowing House.
